Raising small family milk cows with love in Vermont

When we began our search for our family milk cow, we had a very difficult time finding a breeder with the right genetics, training, temperament, location, price and availability. With more people seeking solace and connection in rural areas and a homesteading lifestyle, we think there is a need for access to smaller family friendly cows ready to provide nutritious raw milk and countless memories.

Our practices

Raised on pasture

Our small herd is raised with their health & our soil health as our top priorities. They are moved multiple times a week (sometimes daily depending on the season) using a simple single-wire fence. Each heifer is trained to a single-wire electric fence and used to moving between paddocks.

Strictly grass fed

Our calves will be raised by their mamas in the field, with access to diverse pasture grasses and hay in the off-season. We never feed grain to boost milk production or weight gain. We will train each heifer to alfalfa pellets as a rare treat for bonding & recall in case they ever get loose.

Friendly & easy to handle

We spend time with every member of the herd — slowly teaching them to like human touch, scratches and brushing. They are comfortable around adults, children, dogs and chickens. We also halter train from a young age and practice being tied for vet services.

Meet the Cutie Crew ™

  • Elsie

    PUREBRED JERSEY | POLLED

Elsie holds a special place here as she was our first cow, who came to us at 1 year old. She is a shy but sweet, gentle, playful girl who loves chin scratches, pumpkins, napping in the sun, and her best friend Atlas.

Her lineage is purebred Miniature Jersey but she is just barely over the height requirements to be labeled a true Mini, though she is still smaller than your typical Standard Jersey.

  • Lucy

    JERSEY MIX | HORNED

Lucy also came to us at 2 years old as a companion for Elsie. We quickly fell in love with her outgoing, spunky personality and super sweet demeanor. She loves to be the center of attention and often falls asleep when you brush her.

She is more of a standard Jersey size and has a gorgeous shiny black and brown coat — plus she rocks an amazing hairdo on top of her horns.

  • Atlas

MINI JERSEY X DEXTER X WHITE GALLOWAY | SCUR POLLED

Atlas, sweet Atlas. This boy is the sweetest bull you’ll ever find — he is a friend to everyone, loves to be pet and brushed, will do anything for a scratch, and is a true gentleman with our cows.

He’s proven on several Vermont farms, and he is actually the smallest out of these three. His Mini Jersey, Dexter, and White Galloway lineage makes for some very, very cute calves.
